TEACHER

Want to learn to play the harp but don't know where to start?  Eileen will guide you through the process of starting your harp adventure on the right foot, from finding a harp to buy or rent, deciphering what kind of harp best meets your needs, and helping you to steer clear of common pitfalls of new harpists.  Her expertise will help you save time and money so you can start playing sooner.

Eileen comes from a renown line of teachers in the method of Henriette Renie.  Over a century of highly successful harpists prove the effectiveness of the French Method and Eileen is no exception. Her top priority is for each student to build a solid foundation of technique to grow a musical command of the instrument.  Learning an instrument is meant to be fun and Eileen strives to make the journey as enjoyable as possible.

Prior music experience is not required as Eileen will work with a student as they learn the fundamental skills of music theory needed to play the harp.  New and beginner students ages ten and up are welcome.  While some harp teachers would rather work with youth, Eileen will happily teach adult students of any age along with youth students and help them fulfill their harp dreams.

Harpist and Harp Teacher Eileen C.K. Shafer

Students under the age of ten are taken on a case by case basis, as learning the harp requires solid fine motor skills, focused attention, and a willing desire to learn the instrument.  A young student must also be able to reach the lowest string on their harp with their left hand while seated behind the harp.  Eileen offers a consultation lesson to help you and your child under the age of ten determine if they are ready to begin harp lessons.
